Mrs. Trial’s Bio

I have always loved school!  I graduated as valedictorian of Deer Park High School and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where I graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English and a minor in journalism.  Not ready to be out of school yet, I continued my education at UT Austin, obtaining a master’s degree in journalism.

By then, my wedding to Perry, whom I had met at Austin College, was just a month away.  We moved to College Station so he could get his master’s degree in fisheries biology, and I soul-searched, finally deciding to get my teaching certificate.  I received my teaching certificate from Prairie View A&M University and taught high school journalism (yearbook, newspaper, photography, and journalism)  in Navasota, Texas.

When Perry’s career took us to Brownsville, Texas, I took an offer from Taylor Publishing Company to be a yearbook rep.  I traveled in this capacity for 8 years both in the Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bend, helping journalism educators by training their yearbook staffs, programming their computers, helping design pages, etc. During this time, we started our family and moved to Corpus Christi because of Perry’s career.

We fell in love with the Padre Island community!  Because I missed teaching, wanted to spend more time with my children, and desired to be a part of the Island community full-time, I began teaching at SLC during the 2006-2007 school year.

My teaching certifications are secondary English (grades 6-12), secondary journalism (grades 6-12), and social studies (grades 4-8).  At Seashore Middle Academy, I teach English/Language Arts to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, as well as teach journalism as an elective course.

My birthday is June 21, and my favorite candy is the small Reese’s peanut butter cups.  They’re best when frozen.
